Pierre Couvillion chats with Mystic Mag about Santosha School

I was 40 when I realized I could no longer work for other people’s natural health care schools - it was time to grow a version that came from how Divine Insight bubbled up through this body-mind.

In the resulting 12 years, I have grown in ways that I could not have done as an employee for someone else. The amount of work and endurance required to run a brick-and-mortar school in this era was beyond what I could have imagined. The only thing I can compare it to is parenthood. For me, I was also lucky to find a wife and start a family in my 40s.

Santosha grew to 5 locations in 2019, only to root back to 1 during the pandemic. I had to let go of any visions I had for how the school would grow and trust in how it was intended to grow. I was confident in how the teachers and staff had been trained, and blessed them on their way.

Deanna who ran the school in Mexico, found a husband and happiness she didn’t know could exist.

Shiela who ran most of our programs, bought her first home, began her own successful Ayurveda practice and also met a man.

Heather who was my main teacher trainee in Washington, found the courage to leave a broken relationship and met a new man who she has married. She also has successfully begun her own yoga school.

In Colorado, our teachers are growing happy family lives and incorporating yoga into schools, festivals and daily living.

As I reflect on the pandemic and the re-organization of the school, I hope it has prepared me for when our children (now 4 and 2) venture out on their own independent (yet always supported) paths.

I hope my reflection has served some of you today. I have always loved walking through the doors of Santosha, and not one single time doubted the truth or the importance of what I do for my life’s contribution to our community.
